Filter for messages for diagnostics (message surge)

Errors during communication between the OPC UA server and visualisation are logged in the diagnostic file of the VWE Manager (VWEManager.log) and forwarded by the VisiWin alarm system to the VisiWin client for display and acknowledgement by the user.

In certain cases, however, error messages can be more annoying than useful.

In the Filter for messages for diagnostics (message surge) parameter, you can activate a filter that excludes certain types of messages or all messages from logging.

If a filter has been set, the status of the filter is logged in the diagnostic file of the VWE Manager at runtime.

Example:

Figure 1: Indication of an active filter in the diagnostics file (all messages are filtered out)

15:34:17 <VisiWin 7 Manager (Project Server)> Start kernel
15:34:17 <OPCKernel> Comm-Channel Ch1: all messages are filtered out!
Caution: A filter should only be switched on in special cases. Remember to deactivate any filters that have been set as soon as the special case no longer exists.

Setting

Description of the

(no filter)

All messages from the OPC UA server are logged (default setting).

Filter out messages for variables during a connection interruption

Variable errors are not logged as long as the connection is interrupted. When the connection is re-established, variable errors are automatically logged again. Other errors, e.g. connection errors, are always reported.

example: With certain constellations of OPC UA server and PLC in conjunction with a large number of communicated variables, an interruption in communication with the PLC can trigger a flood of messages in the visualisation, which primarily affect variable logins. In the worst-case scenario, this means that the visualisation can no longer be operated. In this case, you can exclude variable errors from the logging as long as the connection is interrupted.

Filter out messages for all variables

Variable errors are not logged.

Caution: Only select this setting if all variables are OK, i.e. are present on the PLC and are of the correct data type.

Filter out all messages

No messages from the OPC UA server are logged in VisiWin.

example: This setting is useful during commissioning, for example, if communication is constantly interrupted because work is being carried out on the PLC, the power is being switched off, etc.
