Components of the VisiWin logging system module
The following diagram shows the components of the VisiWin logging system module. The task of each component and the interaction of the components are explained below.
- Protocol server
- During the initialisation phase, the log server logs on to the server components to be monitored. The project file provides the log server with the information required to administer the log files and the log events to be analysed. Subsequently, relevant events in the server components to be monitored are collected by the log server and written to the current log file. New event definitions from the visualisation applications are written to the structure information of the log files. If a self-defined log event is subsequently triggered from the application, it can be included in the data area of the log files.
- Recipe server/variable server/user server
- Variable servers, user servers and recipe servers are automatically monitored by the logging function. The server components to be monitored provide the data for the corresponding entries in the log files.
- Project file
- The project file contains information for the log server. Relevant settings for logging are possible via the configuration dialogue of the log server (see Configuration of the log server). The automatic logging of variable value changes can be switched on or off individually for each variable in the Variables system module.
- Protocol editor
- At development time, separate categories and log events are defined here.
- Protocol server configuration
- The configuration of the log server enables settings for the administration of the log files.
- Log files
- The log files are MS Access 2000 databases. Log files are saved with the file extension .vwl.
