VisiWin versions

EASY UI Designer is constantly being further developed in order to realise customer wishes and always be at the cutting edge of technology.

Main version

The EASY UI Designer product is currently available in version 7 (main version). EASY UI Designer contains significant changes to the previous version 6, which is called VisiWinNET 2005. EASY UI Designer can be installed in parallel to the previous version VisiWinNET.

Subversions

If new functionalities are to be developed and made available, we release a new sub-version of the main version (VisiWin 7.x). It is not always possible to avoid incompatibilities between new functionalities and older sub-versions.

Service Packs (SP)

We issue service packs for the minor versions of the main version (e.g. EASY UI Designer 7.1 SP x), which fix bugs in the existing functionalities and may contain minor new functionalities. Service packs are generally compatible with the minor versions, but bug fixes may also result in incompatibilities.

Development environment

The EASY UI Designer development environment is only ever installed once, in the latest sub-version. It can edit all projects of the previous sub-versions. The projects are not automatically converted to a new sub-version, but retain their original version. This makes it possible to update a project on a target system with little effort.

  • A new project can be created in any installed sub-version.
  • An existing project can be edited in its sub-version if it is installed. The development environment does not change the sub-version of the project.
  • An existing project can be converted to a new sub-version. The original is not changed, but a copy is created (see Converting a project to a new VisiWin version).
  • Information on the installed version can be found in the Help > About EASY UI Designer menu. Information on the installed runtime versions can be found in the About EASY UI Designer dialogue under Installed runtimes.

Runtime

The runtime provides the functionality of the visualisation. It consists of the VisiWin system modules, the VisiWin control elements and the VisiWin programming interface.

  • New sub-versions provide new functionalities.
  • New sub-versions can be installed in parallel with previous sub-versions.
  • The sub-version of the project must be installed on the target computer so that the application can run on a computer.
    Attention: It is strongly recommended to install the same service pack on the target computer to ensure that there are no problems due to incompatibilities.
