Decimal point shift

When using floating point numbers, the decimal point shift indicates the number of decimal places.

When using integer data types, it is possible to display integer values as floating point numbers in the VisiWin controls using the decimal point shift. The process variable value is shifted to the right by the specified number of digits.

Example:

A process variable specifies a length in µm as a measured value. The unit mm, which is commonly used in mechanical engineering, is to be displayed in the visualisation as the unit of an input control element. The value read from the PLC is displayed as a floating point number with 3 decimal places using the value 3 for the decimal point shift. The value is therefore divided by 1000. With write access, i.e. after an input in the control element, the value is multiplied by 1000, i.e. converted back into the format used by the PLC.
