Maximum size of cache

Specifies the maximum number of entries for the buffer. As soon as the buffer contains the specified number of data records (entries), they are written to the archive file, even if the time specified in the buffer retention timeparameter has not yet expired.

The Buffer retention time andMaximum buffer size parameters activate the buffer for the archive. If the value 0 is entered in both parameters, no buffer is used.

The buffer is a volatile buffer in which the trend data is collected before it is written to the archive file in one operation. Experience has shown that writing one entry takes just as long as writing 100 entries. Activating the buffer reduces the CPU load and optimises performance. The disadvantage of using a buffer is that the data in the buffer is lost if something unforeseen happens between the write operations, such as a power failure.
