Retention time of the buffer
Specifies after how many minutes the content of the buffer is saved to the archive file. After the specified time has elapsed, the data records in the buffer are written to the archive file, even if the number of data records (entries) specified in the Maximum buffer sizeparameter has not yet been reached.
The Buffer retention time and Maximum buffer size parameters activate the buffer for the archive. If the value 0 is entered in both parameters, no buffer is used.
The buffer is a volatile buffer in which the trend data is collected before it is written to the archive file in one operation. Experience has shown that writing one entry takes just as long as writing 100 entries. Activating the buffer reduces the CPU load and optimises performance. The disadvantage of using a buffer is that the data in the buffer is lost if something unforeseen happens between the write operations, such as a power failure.
