Multiplexer

Technically speaking, a multiplexer is a multiple changeover switch. In practice, multiplexers are used to switch variable sets. For example, if there is data from several controllers in the PLC, a view can be configured in the application via a multiplexer, which displays the data of one controller at a time, but can switch between the controllers via a switch.

The switchover is realised using the switchover variable. The following must also be defined:

  • Which output variables should the data displayed in the application contain?
  • What values must the switchover variable have in order to switch to a set of input variables?
  • Which input variables provide the data for which state of the switching variables?

The variable editor represents this data in the form of a table with a number of columns and rows to be defined by the developer. A new output variable is defined by adding a row. The first table column contains the name of the output variable.

Each additional column describes a switching state via the value of the switching variable in the column header. The input variables that are to be linked to the output variable of the corresponding row for this state are expected in the fields of these columns.

Parameters

Name Description of the
Comment Optional commentary on the object.
Name Name of the object.
Changeover variable (multiplexer) Defines the variable whose value is used as a switch between the switching states.
Switching states (multiplexer) Determines which variables are switched to when the switching variable changes value.
